I am terribly sorry about not updating, but it has been a frightfully busy week. I'm scrambling to finish gathering my data and get my poster and my paper done and all of that stuff. So I've been working super long hours. (For instance, I worked more than 12 hours yesterday...but that turned out to be a good thing, so no worries).
So, really the only thing of real interest that happened this week was after work last night. It was about 9:30, and the only people left in the lab were me, Martin, David, and Bjorn. I was just finishing up the last bit of my experiment when David popped his head into the lab and asked if I wanted to come with him and Martin to get something to eat. I was not looking forward to having to come home and cook something for dinner, so I gladly agreed. (Bjorn, by the way, decided not to come). We went to the Asian place around the corner. We all ordered the Shark Soup, and we were all a bit disappointed by it, although I liked the texture of the meat and it was certainly much better with the addition of a bit of pepper. But my main dish was very good. It was duck with this amazing sauce and some perfectly cooked cabbage. David and Martin both got the super spicy stir fry stuff which also looked exceptional except for the chili peppers. You could always tell exactly when one of them found a hidden pepper. ::laughs:: Oh, I wish I could've gotten pictures.
We sat there, eating and talking until after midnight, when we finally realized how late it was and decided that it was time to go home. David walked me back to the institute, and we were laughing because he had told me earlier in the day that he had been out really late the last few nights and really wanted to get home early to go to bed. Needless to say, that didn't happen. Poor guy. I told him that I always stay up really late and get up early at home (Don't laugh, people! I really do when I'm at school. Those 8 AM classes require me to get up early enough to be conscious!!) and he claimed that it was easier for me because I'm younger. I told him that age wasn't an excuse because my parents and my sister are up nearly every day by 4AM (not to mention that he's only 25!)
But anyway...that was my evening yesterday. Today nearly everyone in the lab left early to go to Cologne, so I took the opportunity to leave a bit early as well. Tomorrow morning I'm going to try to go out and do some last minute gift shopping in the Innenstadt and generally just enjoy my last weekend here (oh yeah, and work on my poster ::sigh::). I hope that everyone else has a nice weekend as well!

Wonderful to hear from you again - I check many times a day to see if there is a new post from you! I know the wrap-up week is going to be tough. This has been an experience I am sure you will always remember and cherish - especially all the new friends you made.
ReplyDeleteSheila and Brian are planning on coming over Saturday with 1/2 bushel of crabs. We can hardly wait! I would be willing to trade you ONE crab for a taste of that shark soup!
I am looking forward to a quiet week coming up.
Dad does have to see Dr.Essig on Monday and drop off the truck at the body shop to get it repaired. They said it would take about 2 days.
Otherwise, we're all good here.
Take care! See you SOON! Love, Mom
So good to hear from you, as always. I know you'll miss your new friends, but I also know you'll be so glad to come home. :-) We'll be glad to see you since we've missed you so much.
ReplyDeleteI've had shark fin soup before. I wonder how similar that is to shark soup. Love you!!! Sheila :-)
